EU Council member, Bosnia and Herzegovina head discuss candidate status

Minister for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Beirovi, received the head of the EU DelegationEU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Johann Sattler. The European integration process of our country was the focus of the meeting, and Be irovi provided full support for the Declaration of the European Union Western Balkans Summit, which is being held today in Tirana.

They discussed the upcoming European Council session this month, which will decide on the candidate status for membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European Union.

According to Beirovi, the authorities must focus on solving the priorities of the recommendation of the European Commission for the candidate status of Bosnia and Herzegovina, amending the law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, on conflicts of interest and on courts, as well as taking decisive steps in the fight against corruption and organized crime.

As a member of the Presidency of BiH Beirovi pointed out, it is important that Bosnia and Herzegovina turn in the direction of European and Euro-Atlantic integrations and that activities on that front be intensified. At the meeting, it was stressed that the candidate status for Bosnia and Herzegovina s membership in the EU would be a great opportunity for the newly formed authorities to immediately start implementing the recommended measures. Both interlocutors agreed that Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path has no alternative.

Ambassador Sattler stated that the European Commission's recommendation for granting BiH candidate status is a strong incentive for all actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina to work more intensively on the implementation of the necessary reforms, and to encourage the citizens that the European perspective is visible and very possible, announced the Presidency of BiH.
