Twitter users may see the return of GIF avatar

Elon Musk'sMusk's Twitter is ramping up features again and this time a popular option has been removed. An interesting feature is going to make a comeback.

In 2012, Twitter banned GIF avatars. According to Buzzfeed, Dick Costolo, Twitter's then-CEO, was apparently not a fan and shut down the feature that allowed users to change their profiles into GIF avatars. Users who had previously uploaded a GIF avatar were allowed to retain them, but new GIFs couldn't be added.

Users can see already organized posts by removing the option to create Moments on Twitter.

Since Musk acquired Twitter in October, the microblogging site has introduced a series of new features and updates.

Musk's decision to monetize the blue verification badge received a lot of flak. Since Musk announced the relaunch of Twitter Blue, the number of verified-but fake accounts on the platform has gone up. Musk said that users may see their 'follower' count drop as the platform purges spam and fraudulent accounts.

In November, Musk laid off thousands of employees who raised concerns about handling certain features.
