99 cr bids for franchises of Women's Indian Premier League

On Wednesday, BCCI secretary Jay Shah revealed that the Board has garnered a whopping 4,669. There were 99 crore bids for the franchises during the auction process for its inaugural Women's T 20 league. The tournament will officially be known as the Women's Premier League or WPL.

Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd has secured Bengaluru franchise for Rs 901 crore, JSW GMR Cricket Pvt Ltd has taken Delhi franchise for Rs 810 crore and Capri Global Holdings Pvt Ltd has secured Lucknow franchise for Rs 757 crore.

Viacom 18 has been given the media rights of the soon-to-be-launched Women's Indian Premier League for a period of five years 2023 -- 27. The company has committed around Rs 951 crore, which will be around 7.09 crore per match. There will be 22 matches in the first three editions and 34 in the next two. Viacom 18 already holds digital rights for the men's IPL.
