After two years, Facebook parent reinstates Trump’s personal account

25.01.2023

After a two-year suspension on Jan. 6 of the insurrection, Facebook parent Meta is reactivating former President Donald Trump's personal account.

In a blog post on Wednesday, the company said it is adding new guardrails to make sure there are no repeat offenders who have violated its rules.

In the event that Mr. Trump posts further violating content, the content will be removed and he will be suspended for a month and two years, according to Meta, which is based in Menlo Park, California.

In a post on his own social network, Trump blasted Facebook's decision to suspend his account, as he praised his own site, Truth Social.

Since deplatforming your favorite President, I have lost Billions of Dollars in value, FACEBOOK has just announced that they are reinstating my account. Such a thing should never happen again to a sitting President or anyone else who is not deserving of retribution! He wrote.

He was suspended on January 7, a day after the deadly 2021 insurrection. He was recently reinstated on Twitter after Elon Musk took over the company, though other social media companies have also kicked him off their platforms. He hasn't tweeted.

After being blocked from Twitter, Trump has been relying on Truth Social, which he launched after being banned from mainstream social media.
