Liang Hengzhu, a counselor for the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, told a Security Council meeting that he believes that the rule of law and justice in Darfur in Sudan are common goals of the international community.

He pointed out that financial support is required to implement the Juba Peace Agreement and build the Sudanese government's judicial capacity.

The international community should not give political consideration, provide tangible assistance to Sudan and respond positively to the lifting of the Security Council sanctions, an issue that Sudan is concerned about, Liang said.

He stated that China's position on the International Criminal Court's involvement in Sudan remains the same.

Liang said that the court will strictly adhere to the principle of complementary competences, respecting the judicial sovereignty of Sudan in earnest.

He also called on the court to fully listen to the opinions of the Sudanese government, maintain its independence, impartiality and objectivity in the investigations and trials, and ensure that the work done is conducive to justice and achieving lasting peace in Sudan.
