Dog owners find safety reasons to attach AirTag on pet collar

01.02.2023

Apple Inc.'s AAPL AirTag may have helped people find their lost dogs, but is it a good idea to attach the device to a pet s collar? There are several stories of dog owners fixing AirTags on their pet s collars. The device, however, presents more dangers than rewards.

One dog owner attached an AirTag to his dog Sophie and later found it beeping inside the stomach of his foster dog Sassy. The foster dog eventually threw up the tracker, but many other dogs are not that lucky, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

The batteries of AirTags can leak if the dog is ingesting the device or if it has been damaged by chewing. The batteries can cause problems with the batteries, such as damaging the internal organs of the pet.

There have been cases of dogs vomiting or pooping the AirTag or having minor surgery, although it is not known if any dog has died from this cause.

The report noted that AirTags are not recommended as a device to track pets, but even Apple doesn't recommend it for veterinarians.

Pet owners seem to find the device useful, as it is dustproof, water resistant and has replaceable batteries.

If you are a dog owner using AirTag to keep track of your pet's movements outside your fences, think again. This might seem like a convenient way to get the job done, but is it worth it?
