Sarajevo marks 561 years of legal history

03.02.2023

On February 1st, 561 years ago, the legalization and legal verification of the act of issuing the endowment of Isa-bey Ishakovic was officially authorized as a legal act that transferred the property of the founder of Sarajevo from private to public property for the benefit of all people.

That act, which is nothing more than a type of founding act of Sarajevo, took place in the month of Jumada al-Awwal in 866 AD, i.e. According to the Gregorian calendar, from February 1 st to March 2, 1462 is considered an official document that shows the beginning of the new city, i.e. An urban entity that is constantly developing to the present day.

On this occasion, the Association for the Protection of the Cultural Heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina BiH congratulates all citizens of Sarajevo and BiH on the 561st anniversary of the writing of the endowment of Isa-beyIshakovic with a message that, without diminishing the importance of important dates in the recent history of the capital of BiH, that very date is i.e. February 1, should be included in the city's calendar and taken as the official foundation day of Sarajevo Precisely because of this act, Sarajevo is unique because it is the first city in BiH to be planned and purposefully created in this way and that will ultimately determine its beginning as an urban entity, and later there will be more similar cities that will be formed according to the same principle, it is stated.

In the second half of this month, the Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of BiH Isa-beg Ishakovic will open an exhibition entitled The Founder's Theme, along with its partner Public CompanyMuseum of Sarajevo.

The exhibition, consisting of 15 panels and five cubes, will tell the story of the urban beginnings and creation of Sarajevo. The exhibition will present in a picturesque way how the development of the city shaped people's lives and how the architecture experienced a change, that is, how it was planned to achieve harmony, function and respect the rights of the other and the different. As part of the exhibition, a model of Trgovka street built by Isa-bey's son and also endowed, will be placed by the Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of BiH Isa-beg Ishakovic.
