China urges US to stop meddling in Taiwan issue

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Friday that the United States should stop meddling in the Taiwan question and stop creating new factors that could lead to tensions in the Taiwan Straits.

Spokesperson Mao Ning made comments at a daily press briefing when he was asked about remarks by Chief of the US Central Intelligence Agency William Burns, who said that the Chinese leader's ambitions towards Taiwan should not be underestimated, despite him being sobered by Russia's military in Ukraine.

Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. Mao said that the Taiwan question is China's internal affair and that the Ukraine issue and the Taiwan question are different in nature and are not comparable at all.

She said that resolving the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese and must be decided by the Chinese themselves.

The US side should abide by the one-China principle and the three Chinese-US joint communiques, deliver on the US leaders' commitment to not support 'Taiwan independence, stop meddling in the Taiwan question, and stop creating new factors that could lead to tensions in the Taiwan Straits, said Mao.
