Bulgarian President urges North Macedonia institutions to prove results

09.02.2023

The institutions in the Republic of North Macedonia should prove with results that they are really seeking European integration, according to Bulgaria s President Rumen Radev at a meeting in Brussels with the President of France Emmanuel Macron. Another Anti-Bulgarian campaign in the Republic of North Macedonia has resulted in a number of hate crimes - arson, shooting against Bulgarian cultural clubs and violence against Bulgarians in the Republic of North Macedonia, raising the issue of the responsibility of institutions in the country, President Radev noted.

Bulgaria's head of state reminded that both Bulgaria and North Macedonia had accepted the negotiating framework proposed during the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union and that the inclusion of Bulgarians in North Macedonia's constitution is a mandatory step before the start of the negotiations process. We are witnessing a lack of political will for reform. Rumen Radev said that another anti-Bulgarian campaign is being waged in the country.

The two presidents emphasised the good partnership between Bulgaria and France in the energy sector and the prospects for its development.
