Rupee rises 11 paise to 82.48 against dollar

The rupee was on a upward trend and rose 11 paise to 82.48 against the close of trade on Monday, tracking the fall in crude oil prices and firm Asian currencies.

The gains in the rupee were capped by strong dollar and negative sentiments across the global and domestic equity markets.

The domestic unit opened stronger against the foreign exchange 82.48 and fell to 82.52 at the interbank foreign exchange. It increased to 82.48 and registered a gain of 11 paise.

The dollar index, which measures the strength of the dollar against a basket of six currencies, was 0.16 per cent higher on Friday, at 82.59.

Brent crude futures fell by 0.52 per cent to USD 72.59 per barrel.

The 30 share of the BSE Sensex was trading 461.61 points or 0.80 per cent lower at 57,528, down 461.61 points or 0.80 per cent. The NSE Nifty was down 158.05 points or 0.92 per cent at 16,942, down 29 points. There were 00 points.

The US and European banking stocks last week adversely impacted investor sentiments due to concerns over the health of the global banking system.

Foreign Institutional Investors FIIs were net sellers in the domestic capital market on Friday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 1,766. According to exchange data, 53 crore were reported to have been lost.
