Nimiq Wallet introduces gas-abstracted USDC transactions on Polygon

22.03.2023

Nimiq is set to roll out gas-abstracted USDC transactions on Polygon, which will be incorporated into its native wallet. It will make it easier for merchants to accept cryptocurrencies, avoiding the typical volatility.

The Nimiq platform is one of the first to use this type of integration, and it has the potential to increase the accessibility of cryptocurrencies payments, especially for individuals new to the space.

The new feature incorporated into Nimiq's non-custodial wallet will allow USDC transfers to take place without the need for MATIC to cover charges or the need for an additional token to cover gas expenses. In addition to aiding web 3 onboarding, this feature saves users from having to hold a secondary token at all times to cover gas.

Users can pay network fees with any token they hold, even if they don't have the required token for the transaction. A user with only USDC in their wallet can still use gas abstraction to transfer the token. The relayer converts a portion of the USDC into the required token, such as MATIC, pays the transaction fee on behalf of the user, and sends the transaction to the network.

Nimiq Wallet has implemented gas-abstracted transactions powered by open GSN, making it one of the first self-custodial wallets to do so. This combination provides a perfect experience for merchants beginning to use stable coin, especially on Polygon, due to its low fees and speed. Nimiq's goal is to make payments accessible to everyone, and gas abstraction with USDC is a significant step toward that goal.

Max Burger, Nimiq Ambassador, said: "We want to make the payments of cryptocurrencies accessible to everyone." The goal is to add gas-abstracted USDC transactions to our wallet. The asset that is very close to what they already know is used by merchants to get started with cryptocurrencies. Our wallet provides a way to discover the wider world of cryptocurrencies with features like atomic swaps and a map. NimiqWallet supports atomic swaps between USDC, BTC, and NIM, as well as a map to help users find merchants accepting cryptocurrencies. It offers a free point-of- sale solution for merchants, calledCryptopayment.link.

Nimiq is a distributed ledger for payments. It is designed to make cryptocurrencies easy to use for everyone without compromising decentralization. Nimiq is building a self-custodial financial ecosystem, which includes a digital currency, fast payments, cheap remittances, and passive income for everyone. In the latest release of the Nimiq Wallet, gas-abstracted USDC transactions are available.
