CV Sciences, Inc., received a certificate of grant from the Japan Patent Office for its patent application 7216697.

The patent covers methods for treating smokeless tobacco addiction by administering pharmaceutical formulations containing CBD and nicotine. The world's largest market for smokeless tobacco addiction is a multi-billion dollar sector, providing a life-changing treatment for people around the world, said Joseph Dowling, CEO of CV Sciences. CV Sciences has developed a new, safe, natural way to reduce addiction to harmful substances with the help of CBD and nicotine. The patent grant from the Japan Patent Office validates our first-of-its-kind treatment and positions the company to meet the medical needs of millions of patients around the world. CV Sciences initial drug candidate CVSI 007 contains nicotine and CBD to support the cessation of smokeless tobacco use and addiction. With the Japan Patent Office s formal grant of the patent, the company will continue its development efforts and continue to seek approval from the Food and Drug Administration FDA to commercialize the world's first and only FDA-approved treatment for smokeless tobacco addiction.

Smokeless tobacco, such as chewing tobacco, moist snuff or inhaled through the nose, contains nicotine and many harmful, cancer-causing chemicals. The National Cancer Institute says that it can lead to nicotine addiction and can cause cancers of the mouth, esophagus and pancreas. It can cause heart disease, gum disease, and other health problems.
