Japan to scrap passport service that allows users to add pages

26.03.2023

Japan is going to scrap a service that allows passport holders to add pages when they run out of space for visas and immigration stamps, becoming the last member of the Group of 20 to stop such a system.

The International Civil Aviation Organization, which sets global standards for travel documents, has warned of the difficulties discerning passports from counterfeit ones, so the Asian nation was advised to end the service.

The Passport Act is going to take effect on Monday, and the revised Passport Act will take effect. Applications to renew a passport and report a lost passport will be done online as part of the changes.
