DWP says households to get an extra 150 pounds for summer

29.03.2023

Low-income households will receive the first instalment of the next set of cost-of-living payments between April 25 and 17 May, the Department for Work and Pensions DWP says.

More than six million people with disabilities will get an extra 150 during the summer. An extra 300 will be provided to over eight million pensioners over the next winter.

Tax credit-only customers who are not eligible for a payment from the DWP will receive a payment from HMRC shortly after DWP payments begin.

The measures are part of a package of support to help people with the soaring cost of living, which is rising at a near-record pace. It comes as the 400 energy bill discount for UK residents ends in April.

The payments are not enough to mitigate the effects of increasing prices, according to charities and poverty campaigners.

Stuart Bretherton, Fuel Poverty Action, told the BBC that the government has been recycling funding announcements and generally that amount just mops around the edges of what people are facing.

He said that he wants radical reform for energy pricing so that no-one falls below their minimal energy needs.

Is there any way for me to get the money?

A Department for Energy Security and Net Zero spokeswoman said that the government is covering half of the average household's energy bill because they know this is a difficult time for families.
