Tesla's Autopilot proved its safety credentials by video footage

Despite all the backlash, Tesla, Inc.'s TSLA Autopilot advanced driver assistance system has proved its safety credentials.

What happened to Tesla owners on Twitter after they shared video footage of an accident that happened on the highway that was recorded on his Autopilot camera and saved on the flash drive on the car.

The video footage showed a black Kia vehicle overtaking the Tesla from the left. The Kia went past a modified pick-up truck with extruded tires, but the latter's side wheel got detached from the axle, went under the Kia and sent it flying in the air.

The footage showed the Tesla moving to the right as the loose wheel rolled over after the accident, which the driver claimed was the Autopilot vision detecting the fast-moving object and quickly reacting.

Why It is Important: Tesla is in the advanced stage of beta testing its full-self driving software, which would be a big upgrade from Autopilot. Elon Musk hopes to achieve Level 4 or 5 autonomy with the FSD software when it is made available for wider use.

Detractors accuse the company of engendering the lives of people by testing a half-backed technology on roads.
