AAI to spend 25,000 cr. on existing terminals

The Ministry of Civil Aviation said that the Airport Authority has taken up a development scheme in which it will spend 25,000 crore for expansion and modification of existing terminals. All public private partnerships - airports in Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru have undertaken expansion plans to the tune of Rs 30,000 crore by the year 2025. Moreover, Rs 36,000 crore have been planned for investment in the development of new greenfield airports across the country.

The ministry said on Monday that the Airports Authority of India AAI has taken up a development programme to spend around INR 25,000 crores over the next five years for expansion and modification of existing terminals, new terminals, expansion or strengthening of existing runways, Airport Navigation Services ANS control towers, technical blocks, etc.

The government has granted in-principle approval for 21 greenfield airports across the country. So far Shirdi has been operationalised in Maharashtra, Durgapur in West Bengal, Pakyong in Sikkim, Kannur in Kerala, Orvakal in Karnataka, Sindhudurg in Maharashtra and Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh.

The GST rate for domestic maintenance, repair and overhaul services has been reduced from 18 per cent to 5 per cent.

The airlines and airports are expected to have suffered losses of approximately Rs. 19,564 crore and Rs. In the financial year 2020 -- 21 there were 5,116 crore and 5,116 crore.

The government is aiming to revive the aviation sector with the help of the aforementioned spend. As of November 24 there are 393 routes connected with 62 unserviced and underserved airports, including two water aerodromes and six heliports, under the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik UDAN scheme.

Freighter aircraft have gone from 7 in 2018 to 28 in 2021, increasing the share of Indian carriers in international freighter movements from 2 per cent to 19 per cent.

The revival of the underserved airports heliports waterdromes has been approved by Rs 2,062 crore. Seaplane operations from water aerodromes have also been introduced under UDAN.

There are 28 seaplane routes identified with a total of 14 water aerodromes.
