Hong Kong chief says meeting with DRC president

The chief executive of Hong Kong, John Lee Ka-chiuLee Ka-chiu, met President F lix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo of the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, on Monday to exchange views on matters of common interest.

Welcoming President Tshisekedi's visit to the city, Lee said Hong Kong has maintained cordial trade relations with the DRC.

As a result of an average annual growth of 12 percent over the past five years in total merchandise trade, he saw good potential to further enhance business and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Hong Kong is a global financial hub, with boundless opportunities, bringing together talent and capital from all corners of the globe, he said.

Under the 'one country, two systems' principle, the special administrative region benefits from the unique advantages of experiencing strong national support while maintaining unparalleled connectivity with the world, he said.

The city is well-positioned to play a vital role for the DRC and other African nations to collaborate in the development of the Belt and Road Initiative. The meeting also included a Chief Secretary for Administration, Chan Kwok-ki; Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong, and the Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Dr Bernard Chan.
