11-year-old girl suffers severe side effects after eating father’s biscuits laced with cannabis

IPOH, Perak, Malaysia's 11-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital after showing severe side effects from eating chocolate biscuits made by her father that were believed to be laced with cannabis.

The victim had eat biscuits that were thought to be mixed with marijuana, which caused her to have shortness of breath, dizziness and nausea.

A medical assistant at the Lawin Health Clinic located in Gerik of the Hulu Perak district, Basri said in a statement.

Mohd Yusri, who was taken to the hospital by her father yesterday, said the victim is now in stable condition. The Perak police chief added that a urine test to determine if she was positive for cannabis could not be done just yet in order to prioritise her treatment.

Mohd Yusri, 58, said police have arrested the victim's 38-year-old father, who worked as a rubber tapper.

A urine test on the suspect revealed that he tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol THC, a psychoactive component of the cannabis plant.

The suspect has been remanded until June 3 for investigations under section 31 1 a of the Child Act 2001 and section 15 1 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Mr Yusri urged the public to be more careful and take precautions so that such incidents do not recur and also not to make any speculations about the case.
