China's top law enforcement body says guardians of minors in 2022

China's Supreme People's Procuratorate in Beijing released a report on their work related to minors in 2022, showing a significant increase in the number of supervisory guardianship orders issued in the country.

These orders aim at ensuring that guardians meet their duties and fostering a better family environment for minors. The report notes that last year, the prosecutor issued 57,425 of these orders, a remarkable 197.1 percent increase from the previous year.

By safeguarding minors in digital age, efforts have been urged to take steps to protect minorities in digital age.

Of the total orders issued, 43,334 were given guardians of juvenile crime suspects, a rise of 193.7 percent from the previous year. The number of guardians of juvenile victims has increased to 14,091 from the previous year.

While juvenile crime has increased overall, decreases were observed in the proportion of drug-related crimes and repeat offenses.

The procuratorial agencies have collaborated with public security agencies, courts, and other government agencies in a broad array of strategies to guarantee the welfare of minors as they face various challenges.

The assistance focuses on psychological counselling and support for juvenile victims.
