China's top procuratorate approves arrest of former businessman

PHOTO XINHUA China's top procuratorate has approved the arrest of Ji Guogang, a former state-owned businessman, on suspicion of accepting bribes and abusing power as a state-owned company employee.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate announced its decision on its official website, saying that Ji, a former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Congress, is still being investigated.

In November 2022, Ji, 60, was placed under investigation after being accused of seriously violating Party discipline and the law. Last month, he was removed from the Communist Party of ChinaParty of China and resigned from the government.

The top political advisory body for China is China's top political body to elect new leaders.

The native of Jilin province started his career in 1983 and joined the party the following year.

In January 2016, Ji served as the vice-chairman of the Legislative Assembly in Tibet. Previously, he served as director of the regional development and reform commission and had worked at the National Development and Reform Commission.
