24.07.2023

China's EV giant BYD Co Ltd BYDDY BYDDF on Monday said it would sue auto blogger Longzhu-Jiche for defamation.

On Sunday, Longzhu posted a review of the D9 MPV from BYD's premium Denza brand on Bilibili.

The blogger, Berkshire Hathaway BRKA, accused BYD of a large amount of false information, maliciously slandering and belittling, and attacking the company. The legal department of BYD, which owns the company, said Longzhu caused serious damage to BYD's brand reputation.

The EV giant wants the blogger to delete infringing remarks, public apologize, and pay 5 million yuan or close to $700,000 as compensation.

We accept suggestions from various fields and public opinion sources. Weibo said the company will resolutely take legal measures against malicious attacks and smears to protect our legitimate rights and interests.

The blogger was posting intensively on BYD vehicle failures and fires in the past few months, according to a report from CnEVPost.

His Weibo account, however, is currently under a ban and he hasn t been posting on Weibo since April 26, the report said.

BYD is not a newbie in defamation lawsuits. It has previously filed defamation lawsuits against the non-profit Alliance for American Manufacturing and Vice Media Group.
