Seven-Phase Schedule Announced, Key States to Vote in All Phases
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections in India will be conducted in seven phases, spanning from April 19 to June 1. The Election Commission has announced the schedule, with the first phase featuring 102 parliamentary seats going to polls on April 19. The remaining seats will be contested in subsequent phases on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
The first phase will see 21 states and Union territories participating, followed by 13 in phase two, 12 in phase three, 10 in phase four, eight in phase five, seven in phase six, and eight in the final phase. Notably, three states—Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal—will participate in all seven phases. A total of 22 states, including northeastern states except Manipur and Assam, will complete polling in a single phase.
Manipur's two constituencies will vote in the first and second phases. Tamil Nadu, with 39 seats, will vote in a single phase on the inaugural day. In terms of seats, 102 constituencies will go to polls in phase one, 89 in phase two, 94 in phase three, 96 in phase four, 49 in phase five, and 57 each in phase six and seven. Besides Bihar, UP, and West Bengal, seats in Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Punjab, and Chandigarh will vote in the final phase on June 1. Punjab will hold Lok Sabha polls for all 13 seats in a single phase on the last day.
