The Waltair Division of East Coast Railway has achieved an exceptional financial performance in the current fiscal year, surpassing all previous records with a freight loading of Rs 10,000 crore. This remarkable feat was achieved on March 26th, when the division crossed the milestone of 75 Million Tonnes (MT) of freight. By the end of the financial year, the division had reached a record-breaking 75.64 MT.

This significant increase in freight loading, despite facing challenges such as natural calamities, reflects the division's robust growth trajectory. The Kottavalsa-Kirandul line, which primarily transports iron ore, saw a record loading of 22.88 Million Tons, a 22.4% increase from the previous year. Vizag Port and Adani Gangavaram Port also contributed significantly, with loadings of 20.66MT and 17.75 MT, respectively. Vizag Steel Plant also played a role, contributing 4.19 million tons, a 16.7% increase from the previous year.

In terms of commodities, Coal and Coke accounted for the largest share at 25.29 MT, followed by Iron Ore at 22.53 Million Tons. Bauxite, Alumina, Iron and Steel also contributed significantly. Notably, the loading of other goods such as slag, caustic soda, gypsum, and container traffic increased by 23.7%, contributing 12.30 MT.

Divisional Railway Manager Saurabh Prasad expressed his delight at the division's stellar performance, attributing it to the coordinated efforts, strategic planning, efficient operations management, and close collaboration with freight customers. He emphasized that this remarkable success underscores the division's commitment to operational excellence.
