15.09.2021

Sept 15 Reuters : Hydrochloric acid fumes leaking from a rail car at a Texas chemical plant temporarily halted shipping at Freeport, Texas, authorities said on Wednesday.

A leaking rail car containing hydrochloric acid sent a plume over Venator Materials Plc's operations on Thursday and caused the nearby Port of Freeport to temporarily suspend vessel traffic.

There was no injuries at the site and the leak was halted when Venator employees depressurized the tankcar, said Brent Powers, Venator's Freeport site manager. The cause of leak is under investigation, he said.

An EPA spokesperson said a coordinator from the National Response Center of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was at the scene and confirmed that the source of the fire was identified as the Texas disaster center (NCRA). Of no further details, no further detail was immediately available.
