Liz Cheney says she won't be a Republican if Donald Trump gets the nomination

25.09.2022

On Saturday, U.S. Representative Liz Cheney R-WY said she would give up on being a Republican if Donald Trump gets the party's nomination for the 2024 presidential election.

In an interview, Cheney told Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith I m going to make sure Donald Trump is the nominee.

She said if he is the nominee, I won't be a Republican.

Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, recently lost in the Wyoming primaries to Trump-backed lawyer Harrier Hageman. Experts blame the election loss in the conservative state for her role as the vice chair of the Jan. 6 Congressional Committee on the Capitol Hill riot and its causes.

She previously said she could have won the primary if she had embraced Trump's conspiracies regarding the 2020 election. She said she would be running for office in 2024 after the primary loss.

She told NBC that she was thinking about, and I will make a decision in the coming months.
