
T-Mobile USA Inc. TMUS is facing a major interruption in the U.S., forcing Apple Inc. AAPL phones to go into SOS mode.
What happened to T-Mobile customers who complained about the network system being down shortly after 6 PM PT. The services are still down at certain geographical locations, including West Seattle and Southern California.
The SOS icon is seen on the status bar of the iPhone users. According to 9 To 5 Mac, there is no network connection on their iPhones.
If a cell network is available for emergency calls, the SOS icon appears on the iPhone status bar. It is an indication that T-Mobile service is still unavailable in their areas, so iPhone owners still see the SOS icon on their status bar.
The issue is acknowledged by the company and they are rapidly addressing the problem that has impacted some voice, messaging and data services.
There were significant improvements at the time of writing, but the service was not completely restored.
Why It is Important: Previously in January, the T-Mobile data hack incident impacted 37 million postpaid and prepaid customers.
The fact that it was the second major security breach at T-Mobile in the last two years made the entire affair even more concerning, despite the fact that the company dedicated an external cybersecurity team to stop the activity.
