Thailand's AOT plans to generate renewable energy

BangKOK NNT The Airports of Thailand Plc AOT is planning to develop Suvarnabhumi International Airport as the first environmentally friendly airport in Thailand, with the goal of creating renewable energy for airport use to reduce electricity costs by 20-30 percent per year.

AOT is planning to extend automated check-in for Suvarnabhumi airport from 1 June.

The AOT Chief Executive Officer Kirati Kitmanawat said the company has made significant progress on a plan to generate renewable energy at the airport to alleviate the financial load from its electricity bills. He added that photovoltaic energy has already been installed on the roof of the airport's main terminal, with officials looking to add more photovoltaic energy to further reduce the airport's power bills, similar to major airports in other countries.
