Between all types of commercial transportation, road trips rose 49.7 percent to 380 million, while waterway trips rose 403.7 percent to 21.76 million.

In April, 8.24 billion passengers were made in urban areas, an increase of 47.9 percent year-on-year. The largest increase was in passenger traffic, followed by urban rail transit transport.

China's air passenger trips during holiday are up to 9 m during the holiday period.

The ministry's data also showed that cargo volume and cargo throughput at port sites maintained double-digit growth during the period.

The ministry forecast that fixed-asset investment in transport will reach 315 billion yuan in the month of March, up 13.6 percent year-on-year.
