Apple has announced that it will upgrade its autocorrect feature that annoyingly corrects one of the most common expletives to ducking in those moments where you just want to type a ducking word, well, the keyboard will learn it, too, according to Craig Federighi, Apple's software chief.
TechCrunch reported that iOS 17 will feature an updated autocorrect that is powered by AI. The AI system will learn to predict the words and phrases that the iPhone user repeats over time, including swear words.
Cnet said iOS 17 will be available in July as a public beta, and the general release will be released in September.
The iPhone autocorrect feature has always had its quirks, sometimes taking a missed word and replacing it with what it considers a logical option, but which ends up changing the meaning of a specific phrase or sentence.
Similarly, such occurrences usually result in follow-up texts along the lines of damn autocorrect! The ducking substitution is a long-running source of mirth or frustration, depending on how many times it has had to rewrite their own texts or scream at one's own device.
Alongside the texting tweak, the company also had a lot more on its agenda, including a lavish new mixed-reality headset and details on a revamped desktop and laptop.
On Monday, Apple's shares hit an all-time high, putting the company's market valuation just shy of $3 tn, which would also be a record. The increase in sales of iPhones over the last 5 years demonstrates the capacity of the company's market dominance.
Of course, iPhone users have always had the option to turn off the autocorrect feature on their phones, which would enable them to be as foul-mouthed as they want.
