BMW says strong ties with China a win-win

The Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Oliver Zipse, attends an event at the Auto Shanghai show.

BMW's strong ties with China are a win-win as the car industry shifts towards greener, more connected vehicles, said CEO Oliver Zipse, a spokeswoman for the German carmaker.

As part of his first official visit abroad since becoming prime minister, Li met with Zipse and other company executives as part of a four-day visit to Germany, which included talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other top politicians.

Zipse said the company has deep and long-standing ties with China, noting shared aims in areas such as electric mobility, decarbonisation and intelligent connected vehicles.

The strong relationships between BMW Group and Chinese partners will continue to provide a win-win during the transformation of our industry, he said.

The CEOs of several top German companies, including Mercedes-Benz, had said that a lack of cooperation between the two nations was a significant risk.

Over 791,000 vehicles have been delivered to Chinese clients in 2022 in China, which is BMW Group's largest product development location outside Germany.
