Toyota suspends production in Japan over problem

Toyota has suspended all assembly plants in its home country because of a problem in its production system.

The firm has said it is still trying to find the cause of the problem but does not believe it is due to a cyber attack.

It has not yet announced when the company plans to restart the operations or how much production will be lost due to the stoppage.

Its operations were hit last year after a cyber attack on one of its suppliers.

Toyota also suspended operations at some of its production lines in Japan last year due to the coronavirus lockdown in China's economic hub Shanghai.

Due to the impact of the semiconductor shortage, Toyota said at the time the revised production plan for May was based on our revised production plan.

Toyota is a founder of the so-called just-in-time production system that reduces costs but can be vulnerable to problems if parts are disrupted.
