
The government on Wednesday announced the tentative agenda of the upcoming special session of the parliament, which will be held from September 18-22. The government has also listed a special discussion on Parliament's 75-year journey from the Samvidhan Sabha on the first day of the five-day session, which will be held in five sittings. Currently, 37 bills are pending in Parliament, of which five are listed for consideration and passing in this session.
A day before the Parliament special session from September 18, a meeting of all political leaders of all parties has been convened on September 17 in Delhi, according to Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi.
The tentative agenda includes bills such as The Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners Bills, 2023; The Repealing and Amending Bill, 2022; The Post Office Bill, 2023; and The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023.
The Lok Sabha will put forward the Press and Registration of periodicals Bill 2023 and the Advocates Bill 2023 in the Lok Sabha. The two bills were passed on August 3 in the Rajya Sabha.
The chief election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners Bills 2023 and the Post Office Bill, 2023 were introduced on August 10 in the Rajya Sabha.
According to the government notification, a discussion on the subject will also take place, apart from formal Parliamentary proceedings.
While the session will begin on September 18, there will be a formal entry into the new parliament building on September 19 after a'small pooja'.
The Parliament Proceedings will move from the old building to the new Parliament building this session will take place. The new Parliament building was inaugurated on 28 May this year by PM Narendra Modi, making it a huge success.
The list of business for the special session is tentative at present, and more items may be added later.
When the special session is held in Delhi, the government may bring in a resolution to rename India as Bharat. Some reports suggest that a constitutional amendment bill may be introduced to effect this change may be introduced.
Media sources said that the special session might be about women's reservation bill, uniform civil code and simultaneous elections among other subjects.
This is the first full-fledged special session under the government of Narendra Modi for five days. The NDA government had scheduled a special joint session of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on June 30,2017 to mark the midnight GST roll-out.
In addition, three parliamentary sessions are held annually in a year-Budget, Monsoon and Winter sessions.
