Vazrazhdane Protests Constitutional Court's Decision on Euro Referendum

Vazrazhdane activists blocked the Yolvkovo border checkpoint with Romania in response to the Constitutional Court's decision against holding a referendum on keeping the Bulgarian Lev until 2043. The court dismissed a request by 49 MPs to declare parliament's decision unconstitutional.

Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov announced that the protests would continue every week at various locations without prior notice. He asserted that the constitution and the will of 604,000 Bulgarians had been disregarded. Earlier in the day, Vazrazhdane representatives also blocked the border checkpoints at Lesovo and Kalotina.

The Interior Ministry declared the Vazrazhdane roadblocks at border crossings unauthorized and urged the party to adhere to the law on assemblies and rallies. The statement emphasizes that the police may take steps to prevent further unlawful actions that disrupt the usual rhythm of work and disturb the peace.
