Eneos Holdings Implements New Measures to Prevent Misconduct After Executive Departures

Implementing an online personality assessment test and third-party interviews in the executive selection process.

Establishing rules for alcohol consumption at dining events, prohibiting excessive drinking and holding individuals accompanying executives responsible for inappropriate behavior.

Eneos Holdings has also announced the appointment of Tomohide Miyata as its new president, replacing Takeshi Saito who was dismissed for inappropriate behavior. Miyata has pledged to lead the company with a commitment to a fresh start.

Despite previous measures taken after the resignation of former chairman Tsutomu Sugimori over sexual assault allegations, misconduct scandals have persisted at Eneos Holdings. An external review of the company's preventive measures revealed that while the internal reporting system and disciplinary process for executives were effective, other measures were insufficient.

Professor Yoichiro Hamabe of Aoyama Gakuin University has expressed concerns about the low representation of women in managerial positions at Eneos Holdings, which may contribute to the problem of misconduct toward women. As of March 2023, only 4.4 percent of managerial positions were held by women, significantly lower than the industry average of 11.6 percent for department chiefs.
