SS Beauty, a subsidiary of Shoppers Stop, has unveiled its latest store in Kolkata, marking a significant milestone for the beauty industry in India. The store, located at the Quest Mall, boasts an expansive 9,000 square feet of retail space, making it the largest beauty store in the country.
Biju Kassim, Chief Executive Officer of Beauty at Shoppers Stop, emphasized the company's commitment to expanding the beauty category. He noted that the launch of such a large-scale store represents a bold move for the industry.
Kolkata's strategic location, with its proximity to the Northeast and Bangladesh, played a key role in the decision to establish the store in the city. The city's strong market potential and the presence of premium and luxury brands at Quest Mall made it an ideal destination for SS Beauty.
The beauty business currently contributes approximately 18% to Shoppers Stop's annual revenue. SS Beauty aims to increase this contribution to 20% in the near future and 25% in the mid-term. To achieve these targets, Shoppers Stop plans to expand its retail footprint by adding 30-35 stores across its various brands within the next 12 to 18 months. Over the following 18-30 months, an additional 70 to 75 stores are expected to be added.
