Queensland Dam Levels Surge, Wet Weather to Ease for Easter

South-east Queensland's dam levels have surged to 80.2% capacity, surpassing levels recorded in January 2022. This increase is attributed to recent heavy rainfall, with 14 dams, including the Hinze Dam, overflowing.

However, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) predicts a respite in wet weather leading into the Easter long weekend. Patchy showers are expected, with scattered shower activity becoming more prevalent along Queensland's east coast.

While the tropical north around Cairns may experience heavy storms, western Queensland from the Gulf country to Birdsville and Thargomindah is also likely to receive significant rainfall on Friday and Saturday, potentially extending into Sunday.

Despite the rainfall, temperatures are expected to remain moderate or below average for Autumn across most of Queensland. However, western Queensland is forecast to experience notably below-average temperatures during the Easter weekend, with some areas dropping 6-10 degrees below average.
