Abdullah Skeptical of AFSPA Removal, Reaffirms Commitment to INDIA Bloc

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah affirmed their unwavering commitment to the INDIA bloc, emphasizing their presence from its inception and their continued support.

Regarding the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), Abdullah expressed skepticism about Home Minister Amit Shah's statement. He clarified that Shah had only indicated consideration of its removal, not its immediate implementation. Abdullah expressed concern that the people of Ladakh may be misled by promises of the 6th Schedule, leading to the issue of AFSPA being forgotten after the parliamentary elections.

Earlier, Shah had announced the government's plans to withdraw troops from Jammu and Kashmir and entrust law and order to the police. He stated that the government was strengthening the police force and had developed a seven-year plan for the gradual withdrawal of troops.

Shah also hinted at the possibility of revoking AFSPA in certain parts of Kashmir, indicating that the government was actively considering the proposal. The Lok Sabha polls in the Union Territory will be held in five phases, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4.
