Jointly Developed Mosquito Repellent Spray to Be Released in Thailand

Japanese pharmaceutical company Earth Corp. and cosmetics manufacturer Kao Corp. have joined forces to combat mosquito-borne diseases like dengue fever and malaria. The collaborative effort resulted in the development of the ARS Mos Shooter, a spray product that prevents mosquitoes from flying by wetting their wings and bodies, rendering them unable to take flight. This innovative technology, utilizing an aqueous surfactant solution with low surface tension, represents a proactive approach to tackle the escalating cases of dengue fever, particularly in Southeast Asia.

The decision to launch the mosquito repellent spray in Thailand in July comes at a critical time when global warming and rapid urbanization have played a role in the increased incidence of dengue fever worldwide. Recognizing the absence of vaccines or effective drugs for treating dengue fever, the focus has shifted towards prevention through mosquito control. Kao Corp.'s interest in mosquito ecology led to the creation of this breakthrough technology, which offers a promising solution to combat the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. The collaboration between Earth Corp. and Kao Corp. was sparked by a conversation at a social gathering where Earth's President expressed interest in Kao's groundbreaking technology.

Both companies are committed to addressing public health crises and saving lives, with Earth Corp. taking responsibility for selling the ARS Mos Shooter in Thailand. While there are currently no plans to introduce the product in Japan, the emphasis remains on the urgent need to protect individuals from mosquito-borne infectious diseases. This joint initiative underscores the importance of cross-industry collaboration in developing solutions to safeguard public health and well-being.
