Powercor Admits Fault in Devastating Bushfire, Pleads Guilty to Over 100 Charges

## Powercor Admits Fault in Bushfire, Pleads Guilty

Powercor, an electricity distributor, admitted to failing to manage vegetation around powerlines, leading to a bushfire in western Victoria. The company pleaded guilty to over 100 charges, including one related to a fire that burned 185 hectares near Glenmore in February 2023.

Powercor failed to inspect and clear vegetation according to regulations, leading to overgrown trees near powerlines. This, combined with extreme weather conditions, caused the Glenmore fire.

The company cited COVID-19 workforce shortages as a contributing factor, but acknowledged its responsibility and remorse. Powercor has implemented measures to improve vegetation management, including investing in remote sensing technology.

Sentencing for Powercor will occur at a later date.
