As the country prepares for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has urged citizens to participate in the democratic process by casting their votes. The voting is set to take place on 102 constituencies spread across 21 states and union territories, with Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim also conducting assembly elections simultaneously.
With voting scheduled to begin at 7 am and end at 6 pm, Kumar underscored the importance of every vote, citing instances where a single vote has made a significant impact in crucial contests. He reassured voters of the Election Commission's efforts to ensure a peaceful and convenient voting experience, highlighting the provision of facilities at polling centers such as drinking water, washrooms, and ramps for easy access.
Addressing concerns about extreme weather conditions like heatwaves, Kumar encouraged voters to take necessary precautions while expressing confidence in the spirit and enthusiasm of Indian voters to overcome the challenges. The upcoming Lok Sabha election, spanning from April 19 to June 1, is described as a monumental democratic exercise, involving the election of 543 Parliament members in seven phases with a wide-reaching impact on the country's political landscape.
