The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Rajiv Kumar, emphasized the importance of voter participation in the Lok Sabha Elections, which are taking place in multiple phases. With around 16.86 crore eligible voters and nearly 1.86 lakh polling stations, the election preparations began well in advance, covering various aspects like logistical arrangements, security deployments, and facilities for voters like lighting, shade, ramps, and more.

Kumar mentioned the use of technological interventions to enhance inclusivity and encourage wider participation in the electoral process. He stressed the significance of voters, particularly women and youth, engaging in the elections. The voter list has been updated to be more inclusive, with different qualifying dates and provisions made for young voters, transgenders, and others, promoting a diverse and comprehensive participation in the electoral process. Additionally, efforts have been made to raise awareness and encourage young voters through various activities specifically aimed at them.

The CEC highlighted initiatives to facilitate voting for specially-abled and elderly individuals, including the provision for home voting. The Election Commission of India introduced home voting for the elderly and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in this election, aiming to ensure their participation in the electoral process. Moreover, guidelines have been issued to political parties to be sensitive in their approach towards people with disabilities, recognizing their capabilities and the need to provide equal opportunities for them. Additionally, special arrangements have been made for voting in areas like Manipur, where ethnic violence has been a concern, ensuring that individuals are able to exercise their right to vote without hindrance.
