Congress Questions PM Modi Over Promises and Performance

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh has raised a series of questions for Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding promises made during his campaign, particularly concerning BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Chavan. Ramesh challenges Modi to take action on his pledge to imprison Chavan, who remains under investigation but is now an MP from the BJP. The Congress leader questions whether Modi considers his own party "shameless" for retaining Chavan or if plans are underway to clear him of charges.

Furthermore, Ramesh criticizes the Modi government's handling of Marathwada's drought and water scarcity issues, as well as the neglect of essential railway infrastructure in the Nanded division. He highlights the severe crop losses due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms in Marathwada, accusing the BJP government of failing to declare the situation a national disaster or provide relief measures. Ramesh also points out the inadequate progress in river cleaning efforts and questions the lack of development initiatives for the region's environmental and economic well-being.

In addition, Ramesh points to the poor railway infrastructure in the Nanded division, noting deficiencies in electrification and track-doubling compared to other divisions. He raises concerns about the presence of colonial-era meter-gauge tracks in the region, questioning why crucial railway infrastructure has been overlooked by the Modi government. Ramesh calls on the Prime Minister to address these issues and demonstrate a genuine commitment to developing the Marathwada region, urging him to break his "silence" on these important matters.
