Samsung Executives Embrace Six-Day Workweek to Combat Business Challenges

## Samsung Executives to Work Six Days a Week

In response to various business challenges, South Korean tech giant Samsung has implemented a six-day workweek for its executives. This new schedule, already in place for most of Samsung's technology divisions, aims to address issues such as rising oil prices, increasing borrowing costs, and a decline in the value of the South Korean won.

Executives at Samsung Electronics have the flexibility to choose between working on Saturdays or Sundays, while regular employees continue their usual five-day workweek. This move comes amidst South Korea's long-standing culture of extended working hours, ranking among the highest in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Despite recent setbacks, Samsung has regained its top position in global smartphone shipments, surpassing Apple. The company anticipates an improvement in smartphone demand and expects to benefit from rising semiconductor prices.

## India's Long Working Hours

India also faces a similar situation with long working hours. According to a 2018 International Labor Organization (ILO) report, Indians work an average of 47.7 hours per week, the highest among the ten largest global economies. Infosys co-founder Narayan Murthy's suggestion to increase work hours for youngsters to 70 per week has sparked both praise and criticism.
