Global Smartphone Shipments Rise in First Quarter, Samsung Reclaims Top Spot

## Global Smartphone Shipments Rise in First Quarter of 2023

The global smartphone market experienced a positive trend in the first quarter of 2023, with shipments increasing by nearly 8% compared to the same period in 2022. This marks the third consecutive quarter of growth for the industry.

Samsung reclaimed its position as the leading smartphone vendor, shipping 60.1 million units during the quarter. This represents a slight decrease of 0.7% compared to the previous year. Apple, which held the top spot in the last quarter of 2022, saw a 9.6% decline in shipments, reaching 50.1 million units.

Xiaomi and Transsion, ranking third and fourth respectively, witnessed significant growth in their market share. Xiaomi's shipments jumped by 34% year-over-year, while Transsion's surged by an impressive 85%.

Analysts attribute the rise in average selling prices to consumers opting for more expensive devices with the intention of using them for a longer duration. This trend suggests a shift in consumer behavior towards prioritizing quality and longevity over frequent upgrades.
