K S Eshwarappa Expelled from BJP, Vows to Contest as Independent

## Former Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa Expelled from BJP, Vows to Contest as Independent

Former Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa was expelled from the BJP on Monday for six years for violating party discipline and contesting the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate. The expulsion came on the last day for withdrawal of candidature for the second phase of Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka on May 7.

Eshwarappa, a veteran leader who played a key role in building the BJP in Karnataka, has remained steadfast on his decision to contest the Shimoga Lok Sabha seat, despite efforts by party leaders to pacify him. He has been critical of the party leadership, accusing them of nepotism and scuttling his son's political prospects.

In response to his expulsion, Eshwarappa said he was not scared and would continue his campaign with full vigor. He expressed confidence in his victory and his ability to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also said that he has been allotted the election symbol of "farmer with sugarcane", which indicates blessings for him from the farmers of his constituency.

Eshwarappa's expulsion is a significant development in Karnataka politics, as he is a popular leader with a strong base in the state. It remains to be seen how his decision to contest as an independent will impact the BJP's prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
