Indian Stock Market Rebounds on Strong Earnings and Investor Sentiment

April 25, 2024

Indian equity markets witnessed a sharp recovery on Thursday, April 25, 2024, driven by buying interest in banking, select IT, and FMCG shares. The benchmark indices, which had opened lower due to weak global cues, rebounded during the intraday session.

The S&P BSE Sensex, after hitting a low of 73,556 in early deals, recovered to close at 74,050, a gain of 200 points. The NSE Nifty 50 also ended the day higher, hovering around the 22,450 level.

Among the top gainers on the Sensex, Axis Bank surged 4% after reporting a profit of Rs 7,129 crore in Q4, compared to a loss in the same quarter a year ago. Other notable gainers included HCL Technologies, HDFC Bank, and ITC.

The broader market indices also ended the day in positive territory. The BSE MidCap gained 0.1%, while the SmallCap index added 0.3%.

Meanwhile, US markets ended flat overnight, but futures declined up to 1% in post-market trade as Meta stock plunged 16% on weaker-than-expected revenue guidance. Tonight, apart from the big tech earnings, US investors will also be looking for direction from the GDP numbers.
