Asahi Shimbun Announces Leadership Changes

The Asahi Shimbun Company announced significant leadership changes on April 25th, 2023. Katsu Tsunoda, currently serving as senior managing director, will be promoted to president and chief executive officer. Meanwhile, the current president, Shiro Nakamura, will transition to the role of chairman.

These changes will be formally approved at an extraordinary board meeting following shareholder approval at the general meeting scheduled for June 25th, 2023.

Tsunoda, 59, has been instrumental in driving content generation reforms as the company's chief content and digital policy officer since his appointment as senior managing director in June 2022. As president, he will oversee the execution of company operations, focusing on transforming the business structure and strengthening growth potential.

Nakamura, 61, has served as president since April 2021. In his new role as chairman, he will manage the overall operations of the Asahi Shimbun group. Additionally, he will continue to address challenges facing the media industry as president of the Japan Newspaper Publishers and Editors Association (Nihon Shinbun Kyokai), a position he has held since June 2022.
