Insights from Research on Gender Diversity in India's Global Capability Centres

A recent research study conducted jointly by Pure Storage and Zinnov has shed light on the gender diversity landscape in India's Global Capability Centres (GCCs). The research revealed that women account for 28 per cent of the workforce in GCCs, showcasing progress towards a more diverse workforce within these organizations. However, the study also brought attention to the challenge of gender parity in deeptech organizations, where only 23 per cent of the employees are women, underscoring the need for greater efforts to improve gender representation in this sector.

Unveiling Diversity in Deeptech,’ emphasizes the urgent need for increased focus on encouraging women to enroll in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses. Additionally, the study underscores the importance of enhancing workplace retention strategies to address the low representation of women in deeptech companies. By analyzing data on women engineering graduates from 2004 to 2023 across 42 top engineering universities favored by GCCs for recruitment, with a specific focus on 23 institutions preferred by deeptech companies, the report provides valuable insights into the current state of gender diversity in these sectors.

The research report outlines several key factors contributing to the under-representation of women in corporate workforces, including prevalent stereotypes about women's capabilities, limited access to mentorship opportunities, and challenging workforce cultures that often struggle to offer a conducive work-life balance for women employees. Addressing these barriers is crucial to fostering a more inclusive and diverse workplace environment that allows for equal opportunities and growth for all employees, irrespective of gender.
