AAP Delegation Meets Election Commission Over Campaign Song Controversy

A group of senior leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) visited the Election Commission to address the issue related to their campaign song, "Jail Ka Jawab, Vote Se Denge", which the party claimed was banned by the commission. However, the Delhi poll body clarified that they only asked for modifications to adhere to their guidelines and advertising codes. Among the AAP delegation were Delhi ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi, along with national secretary Pankaj Gupta and senior leader Dilip Pandey.

During the meeting with the Election Commission, the AAP leaders brought up the presence of objectionable hoardings put up by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) across Delhi, particularly targeting opposition leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal. They questioned the commission about the actions taken in response to their complaints lodged a month ago regarding these hoardings. The leaders emphasized that the BJP's content had not faced similar scrutiny from the Election Commission compared to the prompt responses seen when opposition parties filed complaints.

Atishi highlighted the delay in securing a meeting with the Election Commission, stating that the AAP had been requesting time since March 22 on various matters. She criticized the Election Commission's swift actions against the AAP's campaign song while failing to address key concerns raised by the party regarding the BJP's activities. The leaders expressed their discontent with the handling of issues, such as Arvind Kejriwal's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate and the subsequent objections raised to the AAP's campaign song addressing the event.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed shock at the AAP leaders' statements casting doubt on the Election Commission's decisions. He pointed out the discrepancy in the AAP's intentions before and after the meeting with the Election Commission, where they shifted their focus from their campaign song objections to criticizing BJP activities. Sachdeva emphasized that the AAP leaders failed to address the concerns surrounding their campaign song during the meeting.
