Prime Minister Modi Accuses Congress of Caste Politics and Appeasement in Gujarat Rally

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public rally in Jamnagar, Gujarat, on May 2nd, 2024. He accused the Congress party of using caste divisions and the politics of appeasement to unite their "vote bank" for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

dividing society based on caste and uniting their vote bank through appeasement politics. He further alleged that the Congress intends to take away reservations from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) and give them to Muslims based on religion by altering the Constitution.

The Prime Minister challenged the Congress to provide written assurances that they would not change the Constitution to provide quotas for Muslims based on religion. He also demanded written guarantees that the Congress would not compromise the rights of SC, ST, and OBC by giving away their share of reservations to Muslims.

Modi criticized the Congress manifesto, stating that it is a "red alert" for the country and resembles the Muslim League's agenda. He also condemned the use of the term "vote jihad" by Congress leaders, calling it a dangerous narrative.

Gujarat, the home state of both Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, is a BJP stronghold. The party won all 26 Lok Sabha seats in the state during the last two general elections. Voting for 25 out of 26 parliamentary seats in Gujarat will take place on May 7th, 2024.
